Get lost in a beautiful garden maze, visit Britain’s original smart home, or stop off for some nature spotting with red kites soaring overhead, roe deer and bugs galore – a new list reveals the top family adventures to enjoy in the North East of England while charging an electric vehicle (EV) for free this World EV Day.
For the fifth year running, we’re celebrating World EV Day (Tuesday, September 9) with free charging at destinations across the network – and have compiled a list of the most wonderful things to do while powering up in the North East.
Those with an eye for innovation can head to Cragside in Northumberland, Britain’s original smart home and a pioneering Arts and Crafts mansion filled with the latest Victorian inventions for efficient, modern living. It’s also a chance to discover how William Armstrong managed to push water uphill.
Nature lovers can explore Gibside in Tyne and Wear, a haven for curious naturalists. Amphibian-filled ponds, bats, badgers and otters in the river, plus red kites soaring overhead, roe deer and bugs galore make it a perfect stop. Crook Hall Gardens in Durham also offers the chance to wander through beautiful interlinked gardens and get lost in the garden maze.
Families wanting to let off some steam can spin their legs and explore Wallington estate on the Dragon cycle trail, weaving through woodland, fields and admiring stunning views across Northumberland.
And for those with a sweet tooth, York Designer Outlet is home to Lindt, Cadbury and Hotel Chocolat outlet stores – ideal for a delicious break.
