Families travelling by electric car can combine some of the UK’s biggest summer attractions with cheaper admission and convenient destination charging this school holiday.

The Government’s temporary VAT reduction, introduced through the Great British Summer Savings scheme, has lowered prices at a number of leading attractions until 1st September.

From new themed lands and character experiences to outdoor trails and wildlife-inspired sculptures, here's some highlights of five family days out where visitors could save this summer.

1. Celebrate LEGOLAND Windsor’s 30th birthday

LEGOLAND Windsor Resort is celebrating its 30th anniversary with the LEGO Festival, running from 20th July to 31st August. The programme is headlined by LEGO F1 in the resort’s new Thrill Zone, alongside rides, live entertainment and LEGO building activities.

Advance tickets now start from £29.75, down from £34, meaning a family purchasing four standard tickets could save nearly £20 under the temporary VAT reduction. The resort, which was named the UK’s number one family attraction for EV drivers in research commissioned by Vauxhall, has 38 RAW chargepoints across its car parks.

2. Meet Minecraft characters at Alton Towers

Alton Towers Resort is hosting Minecraft Meet the Mobs from 18th July to 28th August, giving families the opportunity to meet characters from the popular game during the school holidays. Younger visitors can also experience the new Bluey ride in CBeebies Land, alongside the resort’s existing rides and attractions.

Advance tickets start from £29.75, reduced from £34, with gate prices also lowered as part of the Great British Summer Savings scheme. EV charging is available at the resort, allowing families to plug in on arrival and top up while they enjoy their day.

3. Explore the new World of PAW Patrol

Chessington World of Adventures Resort has opened World of PAW Patrol, the UK’s first land dedicated to the children’s television series. The new area gives families the chance to experience themed rides and meet characters from the programme as part of a wider day at the resort.

A family purchasing four standard tickets could save nearly £20 following the VAT reduction, while EV drivers can also use destination charging during their visit.

4. Take part in a Pokémon trail at the National Trust

The National Trust has teamed up with Pokémon for its Summer of Play programme, with trails and themed activities running at participating places nationwide until 6th September. The temporary VAT reduction is being applied to eligible admission prices, while children’s meals have also been reduced in participating National Trust cafés.

RAW Charging has installed more than 450 charging bays across 55 National Trust places, allowing families to charge while exploring houses, gardens and estates.

5. Follow a giant brick sculpture trail at RHS Gardens

All five RHS Gardens are hosting Brick Explorers until 31st August. The trail features more than 60 wildlife-inspired brick sculptures across RHS Wisley, Harlow Carr, Hyde Hall, Rosemoor and Bridgewater. Families can also visit the RHS Hyde Hall Flower Show from 5th to 9th August or the RHS Rosemoor Garden Festival from 21st to 23rd August.

RAW Charging is continuing to roll out EV chargepoints across the five gardens, helping visitors combine a family day outdoors with a vehicle top-up.

And the savings aren’t limited to admission prices. A 100-mile round trip in a petrol family car averaging 40mpg currently costs around £17 in fuel. An electric car charged at home on an off-peak tariff could complete the same journey for between £2 and £4, producing a saving of approximately £13 to £15.

When combined with savings of nearly £20 on four standard tickets at attractions including Alton Towers Resort, Chessington World of Adventures Resort and LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, an EV-driving family could save around £33 to £35 on a single day out. Drivers can also charge at many of the attractions themselves, topping up while their car is parked and potentially avoiding a separate charging stop on the way home.

He added: “Being able to plug in at the destination makes the day easier too. Families can enjoy the attraction and return to a car with extra range for the journey home.”

With battery electric cars accounting for 30% of new registrations in June, their highest monthly share of 2026 so far, according to figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, more and more families are set to benefit.
