National Trust Expands EV Charging at Sissinghurst Castle Garden as Rollout Gathers Pace

Posted on Wednesday, Apr 1, 2026

EV charging is now available at Sissinghurst Castle Garden, one of the UK’s most visited horticultural landmarks, with the opening of new charging bays supporting more sustainable tourism in Kent.

The launch of eight new AC charging bays, delivered in partnership with RAW Charging, marks a key milestone in the National Trust’s wider rollout of EV charging infrastructure. The Trust has now installed over 450 charging bays across 55 locations, helping to support the growing number of EV drivers travelling from London and the South East.

Castle Drogo (above) is one of the 55 National Trust sites that RAW has installed chargers.

Momentum continues to build, with additional National Trust sites preparing to go live. Hidcote in Gloucestershire is scheduled to open eight AC charging bays, while Croft Castle and Parkland in Herefordshire will introduce six AC bays. These additions will make it easier for visitors to recharge their vehicles while enjoying some of the UK’s most treasured historic landscapes.

At Sissinghurst Castle Garden, visitors can now charge their vehicles while exploring the famous gardens and wider grounds. The availability of reliable, easy‑to‑use charging on site makes day trips more accessible for EV drivers and supports lower‑carbon travel, allowing visitors to return home with a fully charged vehicle.

Jason Simpson, CEO, commented:
“Sissinghurst Castle Garden is a perfect example of the kind of amazing destinations we aim to connect with best‑in‑class EV infrastructure. This installation delivers the reliability and convenience EV drivers expect, while supporting the National Trust’s sustainability ambitions.”

The charging bays at Sissinghurst are operated by RAW Charging and designed with accessibility in mind, featuring wider spacing to make interfaces easier to use. Drivers can start a session via the ChargePoint App or by using simple contactless payment. The installation forms part of a nationwide programme that will energise more than 300 additional charging bays at heritage locations in the coming months.

This latest milestone follows a period of major success, including being named Zapmap Best Destination Network for 2026 and receiving ICC Gold accreditation in late 2025 - recognition that reflects the quality, reliability and customer focus of the network.
