RAW’s Rapid Hub Strategy

The Rapid Hub facilities are designed to deliver ultra rapid EV charging to EV drivers. In England, over 60% of dwellings in cities and urban areas do not have garages or other off-road parking provisions, and so must rely on electricity from publicly accessible networks.

The initiative aims to support UK Commercial Property REIT’s and abrdn’s commitments to reducing emissions, and with the UK committing to end the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2035 the initiative would also contribute to much-needed electric charging infrastructure.

RAW is the go-to provider for destination charging for the hospitality, leisure, and retail sectors, partnered with a range of organisations such as McArthurGlen Designer Outlets, Merlin Entertainments, National Trust, and Greene King.

RAW also works with commercial property owners to develop brownfield land into EV Rapid Hubs. RAW currently operates Rapid Hubs throughout the UK including sites in Slough, Bishop Auckland and Croydon.

Jason Simpson, CEO, RAW Charging, said:

“We are delighted to have worked with the UK Commercial Property REIT team at abrdn to bring much needed charging to these two fantastic sites in Yorkshire and Leicester. We think it is only fitting to celebrate by offering free charging for a week, especially over the Christmas period, allowing shoppers to do last minute Christmas shopping and go to the boxing day sales all whilst charging for free. Both retail parks offer a range of shops and restaurants, making them the perfect locations for us to work with the landlord’s advisor, abrdn, to install our chargers, allowing customers to charge whilst they enjoy the range of facilities. Rapid Hubs form an important part of our strategy and we offer a turnkey solution to all asset owners that are looking to install EV chargers on their land.”

Will Fulton, Fund Manager at abrdn, said:

“One of our key goals for the UK Commercial Property REIT portfolio is to ensure that our assets provide the best possible service to customers and other stakeholders, and that they help create a sustainable future in line with our net zero ambitions.  Working with RAW to install much needed charging facilities at these two well located and popular retail parks helps us achieve both those goals and we will continue to work with best in class EV operators, such as RAW Charging, to deliver on our ambitions.”
